The U District's Laid-Back Home Base
University Inn, A Staypineapple Hotel
The U District is one of Seattle's most interesting places to just wander. "The Ave" (University Way NE) is lined with independent coffee shops, bookstores, affordable eats, and local businesses. Cowen Park and Ravenna Park are a short drive for a quiet morning outside. The Saturday Farmers Market is one of the city's best, or University Village is close if you want something more polished.
Getting around
The U District Light Rail Station is a 4-minute walk from the hotel — one stop to Capitol Hill, a few more to downtown. Grab a complimentary Pineapple Bike for the Burke-Gilman Trail, which runs right through the neighborhood.
The campus
The UW campus is steps away and worth exploring even if you're not here for a visit or a game. The Suzzallo Library alone is worth the walk — it's one of the most dramatic buildings in Seattle. In spring, the Quad cherry blossoms turn the campus into something genuinely spectacular, usually late March through mid-April.
What brings people here
- UW campus visits and admissions: You're right there, no commute required
- Husky football and athletics: Husky Stadium is walkable
- Graduation weekend: June commencement is busy; book early
- Cherry blossom season: Peak bloom is fleeting; staying close matters
